Matterhorn Wellington

Since introducing a cold and wintry Wellington to its first fondue back in 1963, Matterhorn has been a cornerstone of Wellington’s hospitality scene.



The Cuba Street institution has gone from a magnet for misfits and musicians in the swinging ‘60s to daytime café and even had a stint as a Greek restaurant in the ‘90s.

In more recent years, it has carved a reputation as one of Wellington’s finest for high-quality dining, superb cocktails and live beats.



In the early 2000s Matterhorn attracted rave reviews from style bibles like Wallpaper and Dazed and Confused, and took out the country’s top honours of the Cuisine Restaurant of the Year in 2008.

The restaurant has continued this legacy, hosting a number of top and rising chefs on its pass, and regularly placing in New Zealand’s top food guides.



Matterhorn's dining space is available for dinner parties and brunch bookings for large groups. We offer dinner seven nights a week, and brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

Matterhorn does not cater 21st birthday parties.
