Umi-hotaru, Tokyo

Umi-hotaru translates to 'sea firefly'. Umi-hotaru is an island and tourist attraction with many drivers going there simply for the beautiful views. Umi-hotaru serves as a floating car park for the city's aqua-line motorway and has cafes, shops and public art displayed.

Greenway Self Park, Chicago

Since Chicago is nicknamed the 'Windy City' the designers of this Greenway car park harness the city's gusts to power the building. It uses wind turbines that look like corkscrews stretching from street level to its roof as seen in this image. The energy harvested from the wind powers electric car charging stations inside.

Smart Tower, Europe

The Smart Tower is a uniquely designed car park which saves space that can be found in over 70 locations in Europe. The playful design captures the cute and quirky image of the Smart Car beautifully.

Parkeringsbat, Sweden

This floating parking boat has a design that blends into it's setting in the city harbour. It has space for 400 cars and is able to be towed to other locations.

Robot Car Park, Dubai

When you drive up to this carpark you may mistaken it for your everyday single carpark, but lies behind these garage doors is the world's largest robotic carpark, Dubai's magnificent Ibn Buttuta Gate. This impressive car park is designed to store 765 carparks and is capable of storing a staggering 250 cars per hour.

Public Library Carpark, Kansas city

This library did a spectacular job of turning a dull building into a feature car park. Locally, it is known as "The Community Bookshelf". Why? Because the walls of this impressive car park feauture 22 well-known books on the spines. Each book stands 25 feet tall with 2 stairwells on each side serving as bookend giving this Kansas public library a newly added feature.

Eureka Tower, Melbourne

This car park serves as the parking lot for the tallest building in Melbourne. The developers of the Eureka Tower allowed designer Axel Peemoeller to come and play with clever graphics and create abstract wall art which may look distorted to the human eye, but quickly snap into allignment as you drive through this fabulous car park.

1111 Lincoln Road, Miami

This striking car park didn't come cheap, but proves that functional spaces aren't always dull. This $70 million sculpture is the work of Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, most famous for their design of the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing.

Autostadt Car Towers - Wolfsburg, Germany

Resembling grain silos, this 20-floor car park building located at the VW-themed Autostadt park can hold a massive 800 cars. Customers can even collect their new car from the car park where a robotic arm picks their new set of wheels from the beehive of stored cars.
