Ever Wondered What the World's Largest Office Is?

The World's Largest Office.

The Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Department of Defense is the world's largest low-rise office. With over 603,869m2 of total floor and 340,000m2 dedicated to offices - that is three times the floor size of the Empire State Building

So, why is The Pentagon a pentagon? The architects and designers came up with the unique five-sided plan for the building to maximise the land's odd dimensions. Each of the five 'wedges' have several coordinated office spaces, linked to each other through corridors, with a courtyard at the centre of the complex.

The distinct five-sided building is not only one of the most unique shapes ever assigned to an office building, it symbolises America's military, and is the location of one of America's most horrific terrorism events that damaged one-third of the building and killed almost 200 people.

After construction was completed in 1943, a $5 billion repair and renovation initiative took place in early October 2001, ensuring an upgrade in security, as well as an additional squeeze on the building's occupancy of office spaces. Today, The Pentagon still remains as the largest office building and continues being used as an administrative office for the United States Department of Defense.
